VanEck’s NUGG will be the lowest cost gold bullion ETF on the ASX
August 2026
Arian Neiron, VanEck CEO and Managing Director, Asia Pacific, said: “Gold has already jumped over 10 per cent in August and we believe there are several long-term structural tailwinds that could sustain the rally. Central banks continue to diversify their reserves, inflation remains a risk and recent US treasury bond buyback signals concerns around rising government debt and the interest burden.”
NUGG is now the most cost-effective way for investors to access the price of gold on the ASX. It differs from other gold bullion ETFs as it is physically backed by Australian-sourced gold and investors in NUGG have the option to convert their ETF holdings into physical gold at The Perth Mint.
“Gold has historically served as a safe haven asset in times of global uncertainty. Global inflation remains sticky and the US dollar could potentially weaken further given the US Treasury’s announcement to buy back bonds, all of which supports a strong gold price.
“This is no longer just a central bank story. Gold is gaining interest from commercial banks, advisers, family offices and retail investors which are increasingly participating in its trade. Chinese gold imports have also surged 172 per cent year-on-year to 173 tonnes in June 2026, their highest level since March 2024,” said Neiron.
VanEck’s global leadership in the gold space stretches back more than 60 years, encompassing gold equities and bullion across ETFs and active funds. VanEck launched the US’s first gold equity fund in 1968 and that fund is still around today. VanEck also offers exposure to gold miners on the ASX through its GDX ETF which launched in 2015.
